It's easy to fritter away money on daily expenses. If you fall into these money traps, learn to avoid them and pocket the savings.
1. Coffee -- According to the National Coffee Association, the average price for brewed coffee is $1.38. There are roughly 260 weekdays per year, so buying one coffee every weekday morning costs almost $360 per year.2. Cigarettes -- The Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids reports that the average price for a pack of cigarettes in the United States is $4.54. Pack-a-day smokers fork out $1,660 a year. Weekend smoker? Buying a pack once a week adds up, too: $236.
3. Alcohol -- Drink prices vary based on the location. But assuming an average of $5 per beer including tip, buying two beers per day adds up to $3,650 per year. Figure twice that for two mixed drinks a day at the local bar. That's not chump change.
4. Bottled water from convenience stores -- A 20-ounce bottle of Aquafina bottled water costs about $1. One bottle of water per day costs $365 per year. It costs the environment plenty, too.
5. Manicures -- The Day Spa Magazine Price Survey of 2004 found that the average cost of a manicure is $20.53. A weekly manicure sets you back about $1,068 per year.
6. Car washes -- The average cost for a basic auto detailing package is $58, according to Costhelper.com. The tab for getting your car detailed every two months: $348 per year.
7. Weekday lunches out -- $9 will generally cover a decent lunch most work days. If you buy rather than pack a lunch five days a week for one year, you shell out about $2,350 a year.
8. Vending machines snacks -- The average vending machine snack costs $1. Buy a pack of cookies every afternoon at work and pay $260 per year.
9. Interest charges on credit card bills -- According to a survey released at the end of May 2007, the median amount of credit card debt carried by Americans is $6,600. Rate tables on Bankrate.com indicate that fixed interest rates on a standard card average 13.44 percent. Making the minimum payment each month, it will take 250 months (almost 21 years) to pay off the debt and cost $4,868 in interest. Ouch!
10. Unused memberships -- Costhelper.com reports that the monthly service fee at gyms averages between $35 and $40. At $40 per month, an unused gym membership runs $480 per year.

Credit Cards are the work of Satan himself. You just about have to have them in this day and time. And once you put anything on them, watch out. It takes forever to get that back off of there. And that sneaky interest rate just keeps piling on.

The other money drain is friggin' Medical Bills!!!!! Holy Shit!!!! You can never get those paid down. And when you send what you can, they threaten you that you're not sending enough. You're not sending it in fast enough, we're gonna turn it over to a collection agency. The medical field is the most overpriced system ever! Not everyone has great insurance! We're not all rich. Some of us live from week to week. How about not charging thousands of dollars for a single test that takes 5 minutes? Or charging hundreds of dollars for a doctor visit just to talk or consult?

In fact medical bills is the reason I have to use credit cards much of the time. It's a never ending cycle. You put it on a credit card to get the medical billing people off your back, and then you get the credit card interest adding on every month, which means even more money. So there ya go. The American Way.

Strip clubs or big city bars. New York, LA, San Fran, Miami, etc.

Some of those places have bars that charge even more than that.

Strip clubs (topless) charge a base price of $5 per drink for everything. It's the nature of the business; that 2 drink minimum helps them to pad the entrance fee. $13 to $20 to get in on Friday or Saturday night. Then even if you just order cokes for your 2 drinks, they will still be at least $5 each. And the house just cleared $30 bucks off of you as an entrance fee. Not including tips or lap dances.

I've even seen where the dancers will invite themselves to sit at a table and just talk with the guys for a song or two, then the next thing you know the manager and the bouncer are at the table telling the guys that they just bought 2 songs worth of the girl's time, at the going lap dance rate. And they extort the money and if the guys refuse to pay up, they get kicked out. It's a shady business sometimes.

What bars have you been going to? I worked in a topless bar in Dallas, TX and I have never seen this happen. Nor in New York, LA or Chicago. Maybe it is a smaller town deal.

But they sure can drain a guy's wallet. Our rule was that if a guy left with a dollar in his pocket, we did not do our job!

bankrate.com has a lot of valuable information on it. it's shocking how much money we really spend on things without realizing it. the money wasted could be used more wisely but we think about that too late most of the time

Top 10 Money Drains -I can easily say, GAS Prices are number one on my list.It cost almost $80-90 dollars for a fill up of my Van. Last year it is about $30.00 or so, plus free car wash.
