Singer, songwriter Isaac Hayes dies at age 65

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- Isaac Hayes, the pioneering singer, songwriter and musician whose relentless "Theme From Shaft" won Academy and Grammy awards, died Sunday, the Shelby County Sheriff's Office said. He was 65.

A family member found Hayes unresponsive near a treadmill and he was pronounced dead about an hour later at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis, according to the sheriff's office. The cause of death was not immediately known.

In the early 1970s, Hayes laid the groundwork for disco, for what became known as urban-contemporary music and for romantic crooners like Barry White. And he was rapping before there was rap.

His career hit another high in 1997 when he became the voice of Chef, the sensible school cook and devoted ladies man on the animated TV show "South Park."

The album "Hot Buttered Soul" made Hayes a star in 1969. His shaven head, gold chains and sunglasses gave him a compelling visual image.

"Hot Buttered Soul" was groundbreaking in several ways: He sang in a "cool" style unlike the usual histrionics of big-time soul singers. He prefaced the song with "raps," and the numbers ran longer than three minutes with lush arrangements.

"Jocks would play it at night," Hayes recalled in a 1999 Associated Press interview. "They could go to the bathroom, they could get a sandwich, or whatever."

Hummmmmmmmmm in the medical field they have a saying when one person dies that 2 more will follow ? Hayes will be missed as he provided many enjoyable moments from his days at South Park... I can't believe Bernie Mac yesterday-Toady it's Hayes..Very strange..........

I read Issac Hayes died from a stroke inside his home..I don't know who will be next.The 40 year old virgin star stabbed his girlfriend about 20 times. SAN DIEGO - An actor who appeared in "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" pleaded not guilty Wednesday to attempted murder in the stabbing of his girlfriend. Shelley Malil, 43, was ordered held on $10 million bond after Superior Court Judge Marshall Hockett deemed him a flight risk. He faces a maximum sentence of life in prison if convicted of the charge, which includes special circumstances of premeditation, causing great bodily injury and using a deadly weapon.

It's hard to believe how one day we are and the next we are not.We should appreciate every day we are alive and dread it to.I know it sounds funny but we could have a stroke,heart attack,get hit by a car..Issac made history with the song shaft and then as chef of South Park..Still hard to swallow how he was just here and now he is not.Scarry stuff

Here he is number 3-LOS ANGELES -- LeRoi Moore, saxophone player for the Dave Matthews Band, died Tuesday of injuries suffered in an accident on an all-terrain vehicle in June. He was 46.

Moore died at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center in Los Angeles, the band said on its Web site.


He was initially hospitalized in late June after the accident on his farm outside Charlottesville, Va. He had recently returned to his Los Angeles home to begin physical rehabilitation when complications forced him back into the hospital July 17.

It was not immediately clear what the complications were. A message left with Hollywood Presbyterian was not immediately returned.

Ambrosia Healy, the band's publicist, says the group's show Tuesday night in Los Angeles has not been canceled.
